ADVANCETEX project consist from 6 main parts, and each is divided into activities presented in gant chart, figure 2 and description of work packages (WPs).

Each work package will be led by one researcher who will be responsible for the technical work and reporting to a principal investigator (PI). Sandra Bischof (Principal investigator) will lead WP 1, Anita Tarbuk will lead WP 2, Sandra Flinčec Grgac will lead WP 3, Tanja Pušić will lead WP 4, Andrea Katović will lead WP 5 and Edita Vujasinović will lead dissemination activities and knowledge transfer in WP6.

The WP leaders will be responsible for constant monitoring of activities, implementation of the entrusted assignments, periodical reporting to the projects principal investigator and drafting reports in the envisaged periods.

Each project participant has particular responsibility in the frame of particular work package. The exploitation of the project will be done by individual results of the work packages.

Principal investigator will co-ordinate all the exploitation-related issues within the project.

Project deliverables will be public. The ADVANCETEX web site will serve as a key dissemination tool. One of its purposes would be enabling interested domestic or EU entities to view TTF's and ADVANCETEX opportunities, strengths, potential partners, research topics and project ideas. This will foster faster inclusion of new Member States and realisation of the full research potential of enlarged Union. Second purpose of the site is to serve as a project management site and to give information regarding project activities, such as: progress status, dates of the training or dissemination activities, public deliverables etc.

Description of work:

Every planned activity will be regularly monitored, and corrections will be made if necessary. In cooperation with the project team, the coordinator will provide successful realisation of all activities.

  • – activation of the textile’s surface with eco-friendly procedures to achieve better bonding of the functional finishing agents (using plasma, ultrasound and microwaves).
  • – substitution of conventional pretreatment agents with biocatalysts (enzymes) and eco-activators.

T.2.1 Bio-innovated pre-treatments

  • – application of different enzymes or enzymatic complexes for sustainable pretretments
  • – processeswith pectinases considering the medium (acid, neutral and alkali) through exhaustion and pad-roll treatments
  • – application of novel eco-activators for low temperature pre-treatment

T.2.2 Advanced pre-treatments

– pretreatments of the bast fibers and 2D textiles due to their final usage by plasma, MW, US treatments

– environmentally friendly pre-treatments of other sustainable fibres.

M.2.1 Fullfilment of desired requirements



  • – the general goal of this WP is the development of materials with targeted properties (water/oil repellence, self-cleaning, protection against fire and heat, antimicrobial protection, thermal protection, high comfortableness level) for consumer driven applications in technical, cosmetic, medical and protective areas. Specific goals are:
  • – application of different eco-friendly techniques (in-situ synthesis, sol-gel, encapsulation, coating) for treatment enhancement
  • – application of different bio-based and/or eco-friendly finishing agents on sustainable fibres
  • – effectiveness characterisation and optimisation of the modification method.

Description of work:

T.3.1 Technical textiles

  • – usage of Croatian biodegradable textile raw materials (flax and SJL) with biobased PLA matrixes for fibre reinforced composites
  • – surface modification of bast fibres using different chemical agents, biocatalysts or eco-friendly treatments (plasma, US)
  • – improvement of the mechanical and flame resistance properties in order to meet the requirements of automotive industry and building sector (targeted end use of developed FRC for mobi-texiles or build-textiles)
  • – application of eco-scoured domestic wool for insulation properties.

T.3.2 Medical textiles (antimicrobial, health improvement)

  • – antimicrobial treatment on cellulose based material with nano-micro particles.
  • – interdisciplinary (textile and medical) approach in antimicrobial effectiveness testing design.

T.3.3 Cosmetotextiles (wellness)

  • – treatments of textiles with microcapsules containing vitamins (D, E and Aloe Vera), natural Croatian herbal extracts for enhanced moisture management, fresshness and skin smoothness.
  • – enhancement of durability through process optimisation

T.3.4 Protective textiles

  • – selection of agents, depending on the targeted functionality and ecology
  • – selection of the most appropriate applying method (in-situ or coating)
  • – protective properties testing: pyrophobic, oleophobic/hydrophobic, selfcleaning, etc.

M.3.1 Fullfilment of desired requirements



  • – durability of surface modified textiles in wash and wear conditions (sweat, saliva, abrasion)
  • – theoretical interpretation of micro/nanoparticles bonding mechanisms on textiles and their releasing in controlled maintenance conditions
  • – development of new detergents and optimisation of the laundering processes for the purpose of preserving high quality of surface modified textiles.

Description of work:

T.4.1 Resistance testing

  • – testing the resistance to friction, washing and organic fluids (sweat, saliva, urine) according to specific features of individual samples

T.4.2 Optimisation of conditions for product maintenance

  • – description of micro/nano-particle bonding mechanisms on textiles
  • – development of a new washing agent suitable for a specific purpose (medical, cosmeto, protective textiles)

T.4.3 Control of micro/nanoparticles release in wash & wear conditions

  • – surface characterisation of ATM before and after wash & wear conditions by SEM, AFM, zeta potential.

  • – testing particles after the in-situ synthesis, surface modification and disposal of ATM
