INSTITUTIONAL PROFILE

The Faculty of Textile Technology was founded in 1991 as an independent university unit. It became the only higher education institution in the field of textile technology in Croatia.

Today, the Faculty is not only the strongest higher education institution of its kind in Croatia, but also one of the leading faculties of this type in Europe, and its diplomas are internationally acknowledged by AUTEX (Association of Universities for Textiles) and Textile Institute Manchester (GB) for the region of Commonwealth and the USA.

The quality of our Faculty is confirmed by the results obtained after the following accreditation procedures:

  • reaccreditaion procedure in the academic year of 2014./2015.:

PROGRAMME EMPHASIS

The study programmes are based on contemporary scientific know-how in textile and footwear technologies, as well as the newest developments and trends in global fashion design. The importance of confirming and preserving the authentic Croatian fashion is also integrated into the programmes. The programmes have been made having in mind that the textile industry has been increasingly automated, new fibres and materials have been introduced in the manufacture, and nano-technological innovations have also been implemented.

CAREER PROSPECTS

The University of Zagreb, Faculty of Textile Technology has 1000 students per year, with the aim to reproduce research and highly educated experts in the field in the Republic of Croatia. Textile Technology and Engineering enable students to fit into any manufacturing phase in a company. They are able to organize and directly manage particular manufacturing processes in the part of textiles included into their specialisation. In manufacturing plants, they can work at a wide range of jobs, from technologists to managers of particular manufacturing phases. They can also start their own smaller businesses, be employed by agencies, merchant houses, as well as in secondary schools, as teachers of practical instruction. The branch of Textile and Clothing Design unites basic engineering knowledge and skills in textile technologies with the education in fine arts and textile and fashion design. The students should be able to include the artistic/creative component of their knowledge into the processes of manufacturing fabrics and then be able to express creativity developed throughout the course, while applied design-based education makes them able to notice and follow global fashion trends and transform them into original and recognisable designs. The labour market has successfully absorbed almost all of the fashion designers educated at the Faculty of Textile Technology.

RESEARCH ORIENTATION

The research work is based on the subjects of textile-mechanical technology, material science, textile chemistry and technology, and clothing technology. The existing research potential, under the leadership of dean and vice-deans of the Faculty of Textile Technology contributes to the contemporary scientific development in the art and the field of textile engineering and technology, as well as fashion and footwear design; which is, together with strong ties with the industry, a promising situation in organizing a successful, high-tech and environmentally friendly textile manufacture in Croatia. Their work contributes to the continuous advancement of their profession in technical, natural, humanistic and artistic field, and society as a whole. Based on fruitful research work faculty academic staff are involved in numerous projects: national research projects, FP7, COST Action, EUREKA, LLP, technological, bilateral and many othersprojects.
