Subject content Classical mechanics. Newton's laws of motion. Work, power, energy. Conservation laws. Dynamics of a point mass and of a rigid body. Mechanical and physical properties of materials. Fluid mechanics. Sound and ultrasound, applications. Thermal properties of materials. Laws of thermodynamics. Transport processes. Molecular-kinetic theory of matter. Electric and magnetic properties of materials. Basic principles of electromagnetism. Electrical current and circuits. Conservation laws of charge and energy in electrical circuits. Electrical networks. Principles of eletrical motors.Optical properties of materials. Basis of wave and geometrical optics. Laws of reflection, refraction and transmission of light. Optical lenses.
Aim of course The aim of the course is: a) acquaintance with physical basis of classical mechanics of a point mass and of a rigid body, b) to gain knowledge, based on the particle structure of matter, to understand mechanical properties and thermal processes in bodies, c) to understand electrical and magnetic properties of bodies, d) to understand optical properties of materials. The course is basic to various other engineering courses which deal with the structures and physical properties of materials during technological processes.
