Subject content 
Methods of approximate equation solution: secant, tangent, general iteration method. Approximate extreme search. Numerical optimisation in the example of reinforcements in clothes. Finite diference method: derivative approximation by finite differences. Application in numerical solution of differential equations of bending of strip and 2D plane object. Modelling and analysis by a computer programme. Application in modelling and optimisation of grip geometry in the automated transport of textile workpieces. Finite element method: principle of continuum discretisation, general derivation of stiffnes matrix and formation of the global equation system. Stiffnes matrices of finite element for beam bending and triangular element for plane analysis. Principles and an example of a computer programme. Modelling and analysis in the examples of reinforcements in textiles and homogeneisation of mechanical properties of a perforated membrane. 
Aim of course 
Familiarisation with the uptodate numerical methods in engineering and the application thereof to some typical mechanical problems in textile and clothing technology.
