Subject content Chemistry of natural compounds. Carbohydrates: classification, nomenclature, steroisomerism, representation of structure (Fischer projection, Haworth projection, conformation formula). Properties and reactions of monosaccharides. Disaccharides, polysaccharides, sugar phosphates, natural glycosides, aminosaccharides and poly(aminosaccharides). Amino acids, peptides and proteins: structure, nomenclature, stereoisomerism, physical properties and reaction of amino acids; classification, nomenclature and synthesis of peptides and polypeptides; nomenclature, classification, structure (primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary), and characteristcis of proteins. Enzyme and nucleic acids. Lipids: oils, fats and waxes.
Aim of course In this course, students are obtaining the insight to the chemistry of natural compounds; hence, their knowledge of the organic chemistry will be extended and completed. By giving the emphasis to the particular groups of natural compounds important to the textile industry, students became conversant with relationship between natural compounds and textile materials, as well as textile agents and auxiliaries.
