Department of Applied Chemistry

The Department of Applied Chemistry was founded in May of 2005 during the reorganization of the Faculty of Textile Technology. Today's members of the Department follow the tradition of the former Departments of General and Inorganic, Analytical, Organic and Physical Chemistry of the Faculty of Technology, University of Zagreb.

The members of the Department give lectures on undergraduate and graduate studies of the Textile Technology and Engineering studies, professional study at location in Varaždin and for PhD students of the doctoral study Textile Science and Technology. Teaching activities are organized through different laboratories: the Laboratory of General Chemistry, the Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry, the Instrumental Laboratory, the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry and the Laboratory for Analysis of Trace Elements and Nanoparticles.

Scientific and professional activities of the Department members are conducted within national and international projects in cooperation with a number of other faculties of the University of Zagreb, University of Rijeka, University of Osijek, University of Jyväskylä (Finland), University of Vienna (Austria), Vienna University of Technology (Austria), BOKU - University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Vienna, Austria), Oxford University (UK), Ruđer Bošković Institute, Pliva pharmaceutical company (Zagreb), as well as other institutions and companies. The scientific research of the Department members has resulted in the publication of many scientific papers in the fields of chemistry, textile technology and chemical engineering published in journals indexed in the Web of Science database.
