Learning outcomes:

The students can:
● distinguish and evaluate sources for the reconstruction of fashion periods from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century;
● know clothing terms from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century;
● recognize the stylistic characteristics of men's and women's fashion from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century;
● explain similarities and differences in the stylistic characteristics of fashion from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century;
● determine the causes and conditions of fashion phenomena in the period from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century;
● research in writing the sources for the reconstruction of the style eras from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century;

Subject content

An overview of the development of clothing from the 19th century to the present day. Clothing in specific historical periods, the 19th and 20th centuries, is considered in the context of historical and social events and art, and common stylistic features are identified. Clothing is viewed as a complex work of art, so the focus is on analysing all elements of clothing composition, their forms, characteristics and mutual relationships.

Aim of course

Familiarisation with research methodology; training for independent research; expansion and deepening of acquired knowledge.
