Subject content
Equilibrium position of a hanging rope: parabolic and hyperbolic catenary - relations of length, span, height and tension. Stresses in cilindrical and spherical membranes, angle of fibers in reinforcement of a pipe. Buckling: Euler's formula, discrete model, snap thru buckling in shallow bar system; postbuckling - transition from unstable to stable equilibrium position, fabric draping as stability problem. Deformation energy, energy methods for displacement evaluation, application in the modelling for prediction of mechanical properties of woven and knitted fabric.
Aim of course
Familiarisation with the selected topics of textile mechanics. Ability to solve simple problems related to mechanical behaviour of textiles.
