Subject content
An introduction to composite materials (classification, definition of fibre reinforced composites - FRC, analogy with conventional materials, trade and trends of evolution). Matrix/reinforcement systems (structure and properties of matrix and fibrous component, their adhesion compatibility and bond toughness). Types of the FRC. Preparatory and processing acts for FRC constituting. Application of FRC in space and aero industry, marine and car vehicles, civil engineering, medicine, environmental and personal protection. FRC morphological quantification, micro- /macromechanics, and stability. Designing and shaping of the FRC, regarding their purpose, production cost and durability. FRS’s impact on environment; methods for their ecologically acceptable depositioning and/or recycling.
Aim of course
Through the acquired knowledge student will be familiar with the modern construction materials, and able to evaluate objectively particular mode of the FRC in view of their final usage. Therewith, student reaches knowledge level that enables him/her to take an active role within interdisciplinary team of engineers, in designing new construction materials for various purposes.
