Subject content

Systematisation and nomenclature of fibres. Recognition of fibres as textile raw material and possibilities of their processing and use. Synthetic fibre generation basics. Basic knowledge on microfibrile structure of natural and synthetic fibres. Primary and secondary fibre properties. Natural fibres and conventional and modified synthetic fibres, production, chemical and morphological structure, characteristic properties, quality, products, commercial nomenclature, properties in use. Fibre mixtures and their properties. Psychophysiological comfort of textiles. Laboratory practice is individual, developing conclusion ability on characteristic fibre properties, conceptually related to the lectures.

Aim of course

The acquired knowledge enables the student to determine the basic suitability of textile application in relation to its composition and to anticipate its behaviour in every-day use and maintenance. Based on the knowledge acquired in the laboratory, the student may perform a qualitative analysis of simple textile materials.
