Students will be able to:


• Define knitting and the most important knitting methods, and name and describe the appearance, properties, and applications of different types of knitted fabrics.
• Recognize and define key concepts related to dyeing and printing and explain the main methods.
• Recognize and define key concepts related to textile finishing and care processes.
• Recognize and define key concepts related to fashion accessories.
• Identify and define key economic terms related to the fashion and textile industry, discuss marketing in fashion and textiles, as well as new media.
• Discuss the textile industry and fashion in Croatia, past and present.
• Follow oral presentations related to the textile and fashion fields, ask questions, and participate in discussions on topics outlined in the course content.
• Read and comprehend texts in magazines and online as well as professional texts related to the course content.
• Identify and apply basic tools for organizing text and independently write a shorter review paper on a topic of their choice.
• Write descriptions of five of their own designs and present them orally.

Subject content

Basic terminology related to the processes and methods of knitting, dyeing, printing, finishing and care, as well as fashion accessories. Key economic terms related to the textile and fashion industry, marketing in fashion and textiles, and new media. An overview of the textile and fashion industry in Croatia from its beginnings to the present and an analysis of the current state. Acquisition and application of basic tools for text organization. Writing a shorter review text on a chosen topic. Creating written descriptions of own designs and presenting them orally.

Aim of course

To acquire the vocabulary of English for Specific Purposes covered in the course content. To develop listening, reading comprehension, and speaking skills. To foster active learning and critical thinking as foundations for successfully mastering the course content and the skill of oral presentation in English. To develop writing skills for professional and creative texts.
