Learning outcomes:
The student will be able to:
● develop the ability to actively observe clothing;
● analyze the basic artistic characteristics of clothing;
● define the stylistic characteristics that place textiles and clothing in the general visual and social framework of the 19th and 20th centuries;
● establish criteria for the critical reflection of their own work establish criteria for the evaluation of fashion events;
● analyze and reconstruct fashion events in the 20th century;
Subject content
An overview of the development and change of fashion from 1790 to the 1990s. Observation of the rhythms of change and identification of the fundamental driving forces and stylistic characteristics of textile and clothing creations. Linking the phenomenon of clothing and fashion with simultaneous events in art and society. Overview of the work of the most important fashion designers of the 20th century in order to demonstrate their contribution to contemporary fashion. Distinction: antifashion – fashion.
Aim of course
Developing abilities for active perception of clothing, identifying its basic visual characteristics and recognizing the stylistic markers by which textile and clothing fit into the overall visual and social frame of a certain period. Recognizing the meaning of fashion and the dynamics of change in fashion as a powerful initiator of change in all fields of modern life. Setting criteria for critical evaluation of one’s own creations, as well as for evaluation of fashion events.
