Plasma Treatment Laboratory

Plasma Treatment Laboratory (B-ZP2) was established in June 2008. Lab is located in the western part of the building at Baruna Filipovića 28a, has area of approximately 9 m2, and is an integral part of the Department of Materials, Fibres and Textile Testing. In the laboratory low-pressure plasma system type Nano LF-40kHz, with a vacuum pump of the suction power of 8m3/h, and (oxygen and argon) gasses (stored in a separate room) is situated. The main function of the laboratory is scientific research and development of new environmental friendly treatments by surface modification of textile materials with the aim of achieving the targeted functional properties. In addition to research work in the laboratory is maintained and practical teaching for students (exercises) of the course " Man-made fibres production and modification" for the textile chemistry, materials and ecology students of graduate study, within they could gain new knowledge and carried out the surface modifications of the textile materials according to the teaching program.

Applications of the plasma:

  • Surface cleaning
  • Modification/activation of the textile material surface using oxygen plasma,
  • Physical ablation using argon plasma,
  • Etching process using oxygen plasma,
  • Polymerization of chemical agents using PE-CVD process,
  • Deposition (AgNO3, AgCl) using Ar-DPDP process,
  • Fixation using argon plasma.
