Subject content
Hierarchic classification of fibres. Recognition of fibres as textile raw material and possibilities of their processing and use. Basic knowledge on microfibrile and morphological structure of natural and synthetic fibres. Primary and secondary fibre properties. Synthetic fibre generation basics. Natural fibres and conventional synthetic fibres, production, chemical and morphological structure, characteristic properties, quality, products, commercial nomenclature, properties in use. Fibre mixtures and their properties. Ecology of fibre production. Psychophysiological comfort of textiles. Laboratory practice is individual, developing conclusion ability on characteristic fibre properties, conceptually related to the lectures.
Aim of course
The acquired knowledge enables the student to distinguish particular fibre types. The ability is developed to determine the basic suitability of textile application in relation to its composition and to anticipate its behaviour in every-day use and maintenance. Based on the knowledge acquired in the laboratory, the student may perform a qualitative and quantitative analysis of complex textile materials. The student is also prepared for further learning in the field of fibres at the graduate level.
