Textile Technology and Engineering (TTE)

The undergraduate study Textile Technology and Engineering offers 4 branches:

  • Engineering Design and Management of Textiles
  • Textile Chemistry, Materials and Ecology
  • Clothing Engineering
  • Textile and Clothing Design for Industry

The studies are designed so that, provided adequate effort is invested on the part of the student, an average student can take year by year with no particular problem. The students are expected to attend to all the forms of instruction regularly and take an active part in them. The study programmes offered enable the students to fulfil all of his/her obligations associated with every subject during the instruction, or immediately after it. The system of continuous checking of knowledge, through tests and homework assignments urges the students to work with high intensity and in a continuous manner, which is a prerequisite for a successful study, advance and completing the education in a predetermined time.

 Common part of the undergraduate study  

The first three semesters common courses include mostly basic subjects (mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering, statistics, electrical engineering and computer sciences), as well as the basics of the profession (fibres, textile fabrics, finishing textiles, textile-mechanical technologies, garment manufacture), while some subjects belonging to general education are also included (history of textiles and garments, business administration and foreign languages). The branch of Textile and Clothing Design for Industry has (in the second and third semester) drawing and painting, as the artistic part of the curriculum. The contents and sequence of the subjects follows the didactic rules of linking the basics of profession with fundamental knowledge. The purpose of the structure of this part of the course is to offer each student basic knowledge and skills necessary for further independent learning and mastering specific professional knowledge in any particular segment of textile technology.

Specialised part of the undergraduate course and the graduate course

From the fourth semester onwards, both the undergraduate and the graduate courses, growing from it, are structured with the purpose of offering the students necessary broad spectrum of professional education, making him/her, on earning his bachelor's or master's degree, able to function successfully in any part of the trade. It is achieved through the selection of the branch and adequate electives. The student is in a position to broaden his/her knowledge by choosing topics necessary to master independently some other tools in textiles as profession. However, the branch is not exactly specialisation, since it includes numerous obligatory subjects, encompassing related knowledge and methods, intended to enable the future expert to find his way in the general textile trade.
