Subject content

Fundamental principles of photochemistry; fluorescence and phosphorescence. Quenching of fluorescence and its influence on whitening effects. Phosphorescence, superimposed fluorescent and phosphorescent efects. Mass, momentum, energy and heat balances, dimensionless numbers, Newtons’s law, momentum equations, rheology, laminar flow, turbulent flow, Poiseuille equation, Navier Stokes equation, flow in textile pores, pore size distribution, Washburn equation, heat transfer, first and second law of Fourier, heat conduction, heat convection, stationairy and instationairy heat flow, heat transfer coefficients, mass transfer, first and second law of Fick, molecular diffusion, Stokes Einstein equation, convective mass transfer, mass transfer coefficients. Systematic approach to wet processing of textiles, origin and classification of electrokinetic effects, measurement of zeta potential, point of zero charge, isoelectric point, specific amount of charge. Application of electrokinetic potential, measurement of electrokinetic parameters. Wettability, capillary, adsorption; surface free energy of solids, theory, thin-layer wicking technique, contact angle, hydrophylity and hydrophobicity.

Aim of course

Physical chemical fundamentals and knowledge needed for better understanding and developing the numerous unit operations of different wet textile treatments in textile pretreatment and finishing processes. On the base of these fundamentals textile materials undergo the chemical, physical, physical chemical and biological processes. Efficiency of all these processes depends mostly on the transport and interface phenomena that include wetting, capillarity and adsorption phenomena.
