Subject content
Textile industry and the environment. Physical, chemical and biological properties of textile industry effluents. Chemical analysis of wastewater by optimal physical-chemical methods of analysis before and after water treatment. Chemical reactions, equilibrium and processes in wastewater. International standards and regulations in the Republic of Croatia, with special reference to the wastewater of textile industry. Sources and effects of water pollutants in the textile industry. Characterization and classification of wastewater. Pollution of water depending on the type of processed textile materials and the potential impact on the environment with a focus on sustainable development. Standards for water quality monitoring. The importance of methods for monitoring the parameters that characterize the wastewater of textile industry, their monitoring in various processes and interpretation of results of the analysis. Water consumption in every aspect of technological processing of textiles and the analysis and characterization of wastewater after each technological process. Methods of wastewater treatment: mechanical, chemical and physical-chemical, biochemical purification. Methods of water purification after dyeing fabrics. Development of new methods for reducing pollutants. Analysis of these procedures with respect to the type of dyes and effectiveness of treatment. The possibility of recovery and recycling of wastewater from textile industry.
Aim of course
The students will get the knovledge about principles of textile wastewater treatment, sources and environmental effects of individual textile pollutants. The students learn about water and wastewater legislation in Croatia and EU, standards and standard methods for characterisation of waters and wastewaters.
